DNV Marine Certification Aluminium Alloys 5083 5052

The shipbuilding materials play a key role in the quality and performance of the ship. Therefore, both corrosion resistance and strength must be considered when selecting the boat building material. It must be able to effectively resist corrosion from the atmosphere, seawater and rainwater, and must also have good impact resistance and pressure resistance to protect the ship and reduce impact damage to the ship from the outside world.

Aluminum is a relatively common metal material. It has many advantages, such as light weight, better toughness and corrosion resistance. Of course, although aluminum has good corrosion resistance, it will still be corroded, thus affecting its physical properties and appearance. Therefore, it is particularly important to understand the corrosion resistance mechanism of aluminum products.

The marine aluminum alloys like aluminum alloy 5083 not only has the advantages of corrosion resistance and lighter weight, but also has high formability and easy welding. Aluminum alloys have good processing formability. In view of the impact of ships on water resistance during ocean navigation, special attention needs to be paid to ship streamlines, and the ease of processing of aluminum alloys is exactly what is needed.

The ship itself requires many different types of profiles. Aluminum alloys are easier to weld and can also reduce the number of welds to improve safety. The influence of wind and waves during ship navigation has always been a difficulty, and the small elastic modulus of aluminum alloy can reduce the impact force, making the resistance during navigation smaller and navigation safer.

In the ship design industry, 5083 ultra-wide aluminum plates are mostly used for the main deck of the ship. 5083H111 and 5083H112 themselves belong to the same 5083 aluminum alloy. They are essentially the same and have no difference in chemical composition. The alloy used in marine ships is mostly 5083h111 marine aluminum plate.

In the international code, 5052 aluminum plate can also be called almg2.5, which also means that the content of mg alloy (magnesium alloy) is around 2.5% (between 2.2-2.6), with low density (2.68), high strength and strong processability. 5052 aluminum sheet 4x8 is a popular size.
