5052 Aluminum Sheet’s Different Tempers and Properties

In the field of shipbuilding, 5052 aluminum sheet has become an ideal choice for shipbuilding materials due to its excellent comprehensive performance. As an Al-Mg alloy aluminum plate, 5052 aluminum plate not only has good corrosion resistance, high specific strength and specific modulus, but also has excellent welding performance and hot and cold forming performance, which can fully meet the use needs of ships in complex marine environments.

5052-O aluminum

After complete annealing, 5052-O aluminum plate has extremely low strength, but has extremely high formability and plasticity. In shipbuilding, aluminum plates in this state are suitable for parts that need to be processed in complex shapes.

For example, some unique decorative panels inside the ship can be easily bent, stretched and processed by 5052-O aluminum plates, thus meeting the needs of ship interior decoration for beauty and personalization. Its hardness is about 46HB. This lower hardness also facilitates the processing process, reduces the loss of processing equipment, and reduces the difficulty of processing.

5052-h32 aluminum

5052 h32 aluminum sheet is manufactured by heat treatment and cold processing. Aluminum plates in this state have medium strength and good formability, moderate yield strength and tensile strength, and ideal elongation. In the manufacture of ship structures, 5052h32 aluminum plates are widely used.

Its hardness is about 60HB. 5052 h32 properties can ensure structural strength while meeting the requirements of processing technology to ensure the manufacturing quality and precision of the frame structure.

5052-h34 aluminum

5052-h34 aluminum plate can achieve a balance between high strength and good plasticity. It is suitable for ship parts with high requirements for tensile strength and corrosion resistance. Take the deck of a ship as an example. As the part of the ship surface that directly bears various external forces and seawater erosion, the material needs to have high strength to resist the pressure generated by people walking and cargo handling, and at the same time, it must have good corrosion resistance to cope with long-term erosion by seawater.

Due to its high strength and good plasticity, 5052-h34 can adapt to different processing techniques during the processing process while ensuring the strength of the deck, and can be made into deck plates of various shapes to meet the needs of ship design. Its hardness is about 68HB, which provides reliable material performance guarantee for the deck.

Other tempers

In addition to the above common states, 5052 aluminum alloy also has H112 (age hardening state) and H116 (heat treatment reprocessing state). The H112 state is suitable for specific application scenarios where material strength is improved by aging hardening, such as some parts on ships with high strength requirements and relatively simple shapes.

The 5052 aluminum plate in H112 state can meet its use requirements while ensuring strength. The H116 state is suitable for reprocessing after heat treatment, and may be used for the manufacture of some ship parts that have special requirements for material properties and need to be further processed after heat treatment.
