Aluminum 6082 6061 for Boat Gunnel Extrusions

In order to increase the ship's carrying capacity and reduce fuel consumption, the shipbuilding industry has also accelerated the pace of reducing ship weight in recent years, and the demand for aluminum extrusion products and aluminum rolling products has also increased. This requires the rapid development of the aluminum alloy profile industry.

The trend of weight reduction has led shipbuilders to use a large number of aluminum alloy profiles in the use of hull profiles. Compared with low-carbon steel, the use of aluminum alloy profiles can make the ship structure 50% lighter. Under the same design conditions, the use of aluminum alloy profiles can increase more cargo capacity, and the lighter hull structure also improves the stability of the ship. In addition, the use of aluminum alloy profiles can also increase the sailing speed.

Industry experts said that aluminum extrusions have obvious advantages in hardness, corrosion resistance, rust resistance, fatigue strength, plasticity, and welding performance. Due to the particularity of the use environment and equipment requirements, in the aluminum processing industry, the requirements for aluminum alloy profiles used in marine equipment are much higher than those for ordinary civilian aluminum alloy profiles. For this reason, the entry threshold of aluminum alloy profiles in the marine equipment market is relatively high.

The 6000 series aluminum alloys are the most commonly used series in aluminum profiles, especially marine grade aluminum 6061, 6082 and 6063.These alloys have good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

6082 aluminum alloy is a heat-treatable alloy with good formability, weldability, machinability and corrosion resistance. It also has medium strength and can maintain good operability after annealing. It is mainly used in mechanical structures, including bars, plates, pipes and profiles. This alloy has similar but not identical mechanical properties to 6061 alloy. Aluminium 6082 t6 properties are the best among its tempers.

6061 aluminum tube is an aluminum alloy with magnesium and silicon as the main alloying elements. It has good mechanical properties and welding properties and is widely used in applications that require medium strength, high toughness and excellent corrosion resistance, such as aircraft structures, ships, trucks, construction profiles, mechanical parts, valves and joints.
