6061 Grade Aluminum for Shipbuilding
Marine aluminum sheet is an emerging market for the R&D and application of aluminum sheet products. Aluminum sheets are mainly used for ship deck, engine pedestal, ship side, bottom shell and other components, usually 5000 and 6000 series aluminum. They includes 5083, 5086, 5052, 5383, 5454, 5456, 5754, 6063 and 6061 grade aluminum.
In August 1931, the United Kingdom built the "Diaina" all-aluminum yacht, and the material was Al-Si alloy. The UK built the all-welded hovercraft AP188 in the 1980s. The shell was made of Al-Mg 5083. The United States used aluminum alloy to build the "LARC-15" landing craft with 5086 as the main material, while some welded structures used 5083 and 6061.
6061 aluminum plate is the representative product of the 6 series. 6061-t6, 6061-t651 and 6061-t652 are the common tempers. T6 is the state of artificial aging after solution heat treatment (quenching), which improves the strength and hardness of the aluminum plate. The main alloying elements in 6061 aluminum plate are Mg and Si, which have medium strength, good corrosion resistance, weldability, and good oxidation effect.
From the perspective of production process, semi-continuous ingot casting, homogenization, sawing, milling, aluminum cladding, heating, hot rolling, annealing, cold rolling, annealing, cold rolling, solution treatment, aging treatment, shearing, straightening, flattening, inspection, oiling and packaging constitute a complete step in the production of 6061 t6 aluminum plate.
It is widely used in various industrial structural parts that require certain strength and high antibacterial corrosion resistance. For example, in the high-end field of shipbuilding in recent years, 6061 aluminum plate is one of the main products.
Because marine grade aluminum is used in marine ships and other fields, it has stricter process requirements and performance standards than other ordinary aluminum alloy products. Marine aluminium alloys can be produced using ingot moulds approved by classification societies and continuous or semi-continuous casting methods.
Plates shall be manufactured by hot rolling or cold rolling according to their mechanical properties, profiles shall be manufactured by extrusion, and pipes can be manufactured by extrusion or drawing. Haomei marine grade aluminum sheets got certification of DNV, LR, ABS,CCS,etc.
