5086 aluminum alloy is an aluminum-magnesium alloy. It is strengthened not by heat treatment, but by strain hardening or cold working. Heat treatment does not significantly affect strength, so 5086 is easily weldable and retains much of its mechanical strength. Good welding results and excellent corrosion properties in seawater make 5086 aluminum very popular in the construction of ship ramps, ship and yacht hulls.
5052 aluminum alloy is one of the typical 5xxx aluminum alloys. It has good tensile strength, fatigue strength and excellent corrosion resistance, especially high resistance to salt spray corrosion in marine environments. Due to these characteristics, 5052 aluminum is widely used in the production of structural parts that need to withstand harsh corrosive environments such as shipbuilding, offshore platforms, vehicle oil tanks, and pressure vessels.
5083 aluminum alloy has the highest tensile strength and good weldability among all non-heat-treated strengthened aluminum alloys, and is extremely resistant to seawater corrosion. It is recognized as the best marine grade aluminum sheet.
5083 aluminum is therefore widely used in ship manufacturing (including hull structures, decks, propeller components, etc.), liquefied natural gas storage tanks, high-pressure vessels, rail vehicle bodies, and various structural projects with high anti-corrosion requirements.
5754 aluminum alloy is characterized by medium strength, excellent formability and excellent welding performance. It is especially suitable for collision energy-absorbing parts in automobile manufacturing, such as anti-collision beams, door frames, etc. At the same time, with its high corrosion resistance, 5754 aluminum is also suitable for use in building curtain wall systems, rail transit vehicle structures, aerospace components, and food processing equipment.
5056 aluminum alloy is similar to 5052 and has excellent corrosion resistance, but its magnesium content is higher, so it has better corrosion resistance in certain environments (such as marine atmosphere or industrial pollution areas). 5056 aluminum is mainly used in shipbuilding, automobile fuel tanks, wire and cable armoring layers, chemical equipment, high-end electronic product casings and other occasions that require high strength and high corrosion resistance.
5383 aluminum alloy is an improved version of 5083 aluminum alloy. This alloy has increased corrosion resistance and increased impact strength by 10%. These improvements have the potential to significantly reduce the weight of welded vessels and increase the yield point of the welding location by 15%.
The processing, forming, folding, shearing, welding and other characteristics of 5383 alloy are almost the same as those of 5083, which makes 5383 alloy more advantageous in building larger and higher-speed ships.
