The Function of Ship Deck
The ship deck is composed of aluminum plates and frameworks, playing an important role in ensuring the strength and unsinkability of the hull, and providing an area for arranging various cabins and mechanical equipment. The deck divides the ship into upper and lower parts. The part above the main deck is collectively called the superstructure; the part below the main deck is called the main hull.
The deck parts of ships are prone to water collection and condensation, subject to wind and rain erosion, sun exposure and directly in contact with the atmosphere. Therefore, the ship deck is first to required to have excellent corrosion resistance and water resistance.
In addition, due to personnel activities and mechanical operations, the deck is often subject to trampling friction and rolling wear, and it also needs frequent cleaning because of the contamination of various oily, acid and alkaline media. Main Types of Aluminum Deck Plates
The main alloys of aluminum deck plates are 5052, 5083, 5086 and 6061, especially aluminum tread plate.
5052 aluminum check plate: It is of novel structure, good anti-skid effect, light weight and excellent durability. The mass per square meter is about 7kg, its tensile strength is 200N per square millimeter, and the relative elongation is higher than 10%, which can withstand high bending without breaking.
5083 aluminum deck plate: Its patterns have one bar, two bar, three bar, five bar,etc. Haomei 5083 aluminum plate is of flat shape and stable performance, which has been successfully used on yachts, cruise ships and other hulls. The common tempers are 5083-H116, H112 and H321.
5086 aluminum diamond plate: It features low density, high tensile strength, high elongation, and high corrosion resistance. It has medium strength and good weldability. So it is widely used as the marine grade aluminium plate.
6061 aluminum tread plate: 6161 aluminum plate has excellent corrosion resistance, weather resistance, slip resistance, easy processing property, which is an indispensable material for making ship decks. In particular, it has no stress corrosion cracking tendency.
