Research on Corrosion of Marine Grade Aluminum Sheet 5083

Marine grade alumium sheet has low density, good mechanical properties, processing properties, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance, so they are increasingly widely used in the field of ships and marine equipment, which is useful for reducing the weight of hull structures and improving sailing speed.

Corrosion resistance is one of the important indicators that affect the application of aluminum alloy in the marine environment. The corrosion of aluminum alloy in the marine environment is mainly local corrosion such as pitting, crevice corrosion and intergranular corrosion. The corrosion of aluminum alloys varies greatly due to their different chemical compositions and different seawater environmental factors.

With increasing depth, environmental factors such as seawater temperature and dissolved oxygen have significant differences. The higher the dissolved oxygen content, the easier to form an oxide film on the surface of 5083 aluminum alloy. The lower the temperature, the higher the corrosion resistance.

Aluminum aw 5083 exposed at different depths suffered severe crevice corrosion around the fixing holes, which expanded to the surroundings. As the exposure depth increases, the area and depth of local corrosion increase. The average corrosion rates of exposure at 800 m and 1200 m for 3 years are 0.048 and 0.054 mm/a respectively.

Under the same heat treatment conditions, the corrosion resistance of 5083 aluminum alloy with low Mg content is better than that with high Mg content. The corrosion degree of 5083 aluminum alloy under static and flowing seawater conditions is also different.

In still seawater, the corrosion resistance of aluminum aw 5083 is better and the corrosion rate is small. As the seawater velocity increases, the corrosion resistance decreases rapidly. When the seawater velocity is 2 m/s, the average corrosion rate increases to 8 times that of static water.

Haomei Aluminum has different kinds of marine aluminium sheets, not only including aluminum aw 5083, but also having 5086, 6061, 5052, 5754,etc. Welcome to leave message below to inquire what you want.
