Marine Grade Materials: 5083 Aluminum Sheet

Aluminum alloys are basically divided into seven categories, of which only the 5000 and 6000 series marine grade aluminum alloys are internationally recognized and can be used on ships. 5083 aluminum sheet is a typical one, which is widely used in making yachts, fishing boat, high speed catamaran, Jon boat, tug, etc.

Yacht

One of the most important goals in the manufacture of aluminum alloy yachts is to achieve the design speed. In order to achieve the above goals, under the same hull line shape and the same main engine power, the lighter the weight of the empty ship means the faster the ship's speed and lower fuel consumption. The density of 5083 aluminum alloy is only 1/3 of that of steel, which can greatly reduce the ship weight.

High speed catamaran

Sailing catamarans are in high demand in the charter industry and show no signs of abating. Catamarans offer far more space than monohulls, whether in cabins or halls. Catamarans have an amazing stability: they don't tip over while sailing and don't roll when anchored. Power catamarans and sailing catamarans are much faster than solo catamarans. It can be made of 5083-H116, the yield strength of which is 215 N/mm2 before welding and 125 N/mm2 after welding.

Fishing boat

The advantages of aluminum alloy fishing boats are also obvious. It is resistant to bumps. As long as the bumps are not very serious, the hull of the aluminum alloy fishing boat will not be damaged. Aluminum alloy fishing boats have obvious weight advantages. Its weight is only 1/4 of that of other materials, so the fuel consumption will also save 1/5. In general, the use area of the inner deck of the aluminum alloy fishing boat will be larger.

Jon boat

Jon boats are flat-bottom boats with squared off bows. Flat-bottomed hulls are suitable for canals and rivers where there is no low tide. They usually have a shallow draft and can operate in shallower waters. They are cheap to build, but are not suitable for ocean-going ships because they are unstable and have no keel to provide directional stability.

Moreover, its possibility of hitting the rocks and the danger after hitting the rocks are relatively small. However, because of its high center of gravity, its resistance to overturn is poor.

Tug

A tugboat refers to a ship used to tow barges and ships. It has firm structure, good stability, small hull, large main engine power, large traction force and good maneuverability. Tugboats can also be made of aluminum alloy. The hull of the American "Sauter" tugboat is welded with 5083 h112 and 5086 alloys, and the manufacturing time is about 30% shorter than that of steel barges.
