AA5086 Aluminum Sheet for Boat

Aluminum is an advanced material for building ships and marine engineering structures. Based on the excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys, ships made of aluminum alloys have the advantages of fast speed, long service life, high load capacity, and low maintenance costs.

The strength of 5086 aluminum alloy is higher than that of 5052 aluminum alloy, but the strength is slightly lower than that of 5083 aluminum alloy. Generally speaking, the commonly used 5086 marine aluminum sheets are O, H111, H112, H116, H321, etc. 5086-O aluminum sheet and 5086 h111 sheet are used on high-speed boats.

From 1966 to 1971, the United States built 14 "Asheville" class high-speed gunboats. The main deck and bottom plate were made of 12.7mm thick 5086-H32 aluminum alloy, and the profiles were made of 5086-H112 aluminum alloy. The US "Sauter" tug hull is welded with 5083 and 5086 alloys, and the manufacturing time is about 30% shorter than that of steel barges.

Generally speaking, the thickness of the marine aluminum plates is determined by the hull structure, ship specifications, and the location of use. From the perspective of hull weight reduction, thin plates are generally used as much as possible, but the corrosion depth of the aluminum plate within the service time should also be considered. The commonly used aluminum plates are thin plates over 1.6mm and thick plates over 30mm.

One test involved partial and total immersion of unwelded and welded 5086 and 5083 marine aluminum alloy sheets in the ocean waters of Torna, Florida, for 5 and 7 years. After 5 years, the strength loss of the fully immersed unprotected weld 5086 and 8083 samples is negligible. Almost no corrosion pits were found, and the maximum corrosion pit depth was only 0.38mm. This fully shows that 5086 and 5083 alloys maintain their inherent resistance to seawater stress corrosion.

Haomei Alumium provides the main 5xxx marine aluminum alloys like AA5086, 5083, 5052, 5059,etc. All have been certified by DNV, LR, ABS, RINA,etc. Welcome to leave message below to inquire what you need.
