Marine Certification Flat Aluminium Sheet 5052
The application of aluminum alloy in the shipbuilding industry can be traced back to the late 19th century. However, the strength and corrosion resistance of the only few aluminum alloys at that time were not advantageous, so they were not widely used. It was not until the rapid development of the metallurgical industry and the emergence of aluminum-magnesium alloys with strong corrosion resistance that aluminum alloys received due attention in the shipbuilding industry. By the mid-20th century, the application of aluminum alloys in civilian ships reached a small peak.
5xxx series aluminum alloy, also known as rust-proof aluminum, refers to aluminum alloy with a magnesium content between 3% and 5%. 5xxx series aluminum alloy has the advantages of low density, high strength, corrosion resistance, good welding performance, and good surface treatment performance. It has broad application prospects in packaging materials, marine engineering, construction engineering, and transportation.
5xxx series aluminum alloys mainly include 5005, 5052, 5083, 5a05, 5059,etc. 5052 aluminum sheet for sale is a typical 5xxx marine grade aluminum alloy. Compared with other aluminum alloys, it has more advantages in mechanical processing performance, forming performance and welding performance.
1. Forming properties
5052 marine grade aluminium has good plasticity in hot processing. The forging and die forging temperatures range from 420℃ to 475℃. Hot deformation is carried out within this temperature range, and the deformation amount is >80%. The cold stamping performance is related to the alloy state. The cold stamping performance of the annealed (O) state is good, followed by the H32 and H34 states, and the H36/H38 state is not good.
2. Welding performance
The alloy has good gas welding, arc welding, resistance welding, spot welding and seam welding performance, and has a tendency to crystal cracking in two argon arc welding. The brazing performance is good, but the soft soldering performance is poor. The weld strength and plasticity are high, and the welding strength reaches 90%~95% of the base metal strength. However, the weld air tightness is not high.
3. Machinability
The alloy has poor cutting performance in the annealed state, but it improves in the cold-hardened state. It has excellent weldability, good cold workability, and moderate strength.
