Marine Aluminum Plate for Boat
Marine materials need to undergo hot and cold processing and welding during processing, and ships will be impacted by waves and corroded by seawater, sea mud, and marine atmosphere during use. Therefore, marine materials are required to have high comprehensive performance, including good plasticity and weldability, high stiffness, strength, good impact toughness and good corrosion resistance.
Aluminum plate for boat usually chooses aluminum-magnesium alloys, aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloys and aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloys. The 5-series marine aluminum alloys mainly include 5083, 5086, 5456 and 5052. The advantages of 5083 aluminum plate applied in the shipbuilding field lie in its high strength, corrosion resistance, plasticity and excellent welding performance.
5383 aluminum sheet is an upgraded version of the 5083. The former is more corrosion-resistant than the latter, and the hardness is also increased by 10%. These potential performance improvements reduce the number of welds. The yield point of the welded structure was increased by 15%. With the characteristics of formability, weldability and yield, 5383 and 5083 aluminum sheets are also favored by large high-speed ship manufacturers.
5086 aluminum plate belongs to Al-Mg alloy and the magnesium content generally does not exceed 7%. With the increase of the magnesium content, the strength of the alloy will increase, and the plasticity will decrease. It is usually used in the annealed state, cold hardened or semi-cold hardened state. Due to the effect of magnesium, the density of 5086 anti-rust aluminum plate is higher than that of other aluminum plates, and it has very good corrosion resistance.
Ocean yachts need to use 5083 aluminum plates, inland rivers use 5456 aluminum plates, and domestic park boats generally use 5052 aluminum plates. 5052 sheet is with a Mg content of 2.2%-2.8%, medium strength, good corrosion resistance and weldability. It is easy to process and has good machinability.
5052 aluminum sheet contains less magnesium and has better formability, and is better for pressing, while 5083 aluminum has a high magnesium content and is more brittle and hard, which is not suitable for pressing, but 5083 alloy is harder than 5052 sheet and has better anti-corrosion properties. You can choose a proper one according to your own shipbuilding need.
