5083 VS5383 Marine Grade Aluminum

5083 aluminum alloy has excellent strength, bending performance and seawater corrosion resistance. It is a kind of aluminum alloy for ships with good comprehensive performance. It can be used for the hull and superstructure of ships. 5083 H116/H321/H112 are commonly used. Haomei 5083 aluminum sheet has been successfully used in yachts, fishing boats, punts, catamarans, etc.

5383 marine grade aluminum is an improved alloy of 5083 aluminum alloy. Compared with 5083 aluminum plate, 5383 aluminum alloy has higher strength and better welding performance. The Mg content in the 5383 aluminum alloy is between 4.0 and 5.2%. When used in a corrosive environment, such as offshore environments, corrosion failures are prone to occur. Therefore, it is necessary to perform stabilization annealing on the 5383 aluminum plate to improve its corrosion resistance.

5083h116 aluminum sheet is the most widely used military and civilian aluminum alloy in the field of ships, and has broad application prospects in the fields of military speedboats and high-speed passenger ships. The production process of 5083-H116 plate is as follows: melting and casting-homogeneous fire—planing—milling—sawing—heating—hot rolling—intermediate annealing—cold rolling—stabilizing annealing—straightening—sawing finished product—performance testing—organization observation—result analysis.

In the case of ensuring the good performance of the 5083 aluminum, the holding time should not be too long to save energy and shorten the production cycle; at the same time, in order to ensure the uniform performance of the plate after annealing, the stabilization annealing holding time of the 5083 alloy plate is determined to be 2h.

When the annealing temperature is 140~280°C, the intergranular corrosion of the 5083 aluminum plate is less than 0.10mm, which meets the requirements of ASTM B209. The effect of the stabilization annealing temperature of 5083 alloy plate on its intergranular corrosion is that when the stabilization annealing temperature is lower than 220 °C, the intergranular corrosion depth becomes shallower with the increase of the stabilization annealing temperature; when the stabilizing annealing temperature is higher than 220°C, the depth of intergranular corrosion increases with the increase of stabilizing annealing temperature.

According to the corrosion test results of the 5083 Al, the production process parameters of the 5083-H116 plate are determined as follows: 40% cold processing rate reserved for hot rolling, intermediate annealing, cold rolled to the thickness of the finished product, stabilized annealing temperature 220±5°C and annealing holding time 2h.

Haome Aluminum strictly controls the product process of 5083 and 5083 aluminum sheet. Through alloy composition determination, smelting and casting process optimization, homogeneous heat treatment and rolling process test, the product performance fully meets the marine applications.
