What Are Corrosion Resistant Coatings for Fishing Boat Aluminum

After surface treatment, the anti-corrosion performance of the marine aluminum sheets is greatly improved, but surface treatment alone cannot meet the anti-corrosion requirements, and further coating is required to improve its performance.

At present, the conventional aluminum alloy surface treatment is to use high-temperature baked fluorocarbon coating (PVDF). It is a homopolymer with a theoretical fluorine content of 59.3%, featuring good weather resistance, good chemical corrosion resistance, and excellent flexibility.

The marine environment is a relatively harsh environment, and the anti-corrosion requirements for fishing boat aluminum in this working environment are higher. For ships, different parts are in different corrosion environments. The bottom of the ship is mainly caused by the penetration corrosion of natural seawater and the adhesion of aquatic organisms.

The parts above the waterline are mainly caused by salt spray corrosion and atmospheric aging. Therefore, the requirements for anti-corrosion primers at the bottom of the ship and above the waterline are not exactly the same.

Due to long-term immersion in seawater, impact of running water, and alternating effects of dryness and wetness, the anti-corrosion primer applied to the bottom should have the following characteristics: 1. Have good seawater resistance; 2. Excellent adhesion to the substrate; 3. Good interlayer adhesion to antifouling coatings. Commonly used paintings are epoxy amine primers, epoxy polyphthalamine primers, and chlorinated rubber anti-rust primers.

The primer above the waterline should have good salt spray resistance and adhesion, such as epoxy polyurethane primer, polyurethane primer and chlorinated rubber primer. Epoxy resin, in particular, is widely used due to its advantages such as good water resistance, strong adhesion to the substrate, and good compatibility with various coatings. By adding various anti-rust pigments, it can meet the anti-corrosion requirements under various conditions and is the most widely used in supporting systems.

Since the sailing speed of lightweight aluminum-hulled boats is much greater than that of traditional steel ships, the scouring effect of seawater cannot be ignored. The double-coat structure composed of epoxy primer and polyurethane topcoat has good corrosion resistance and erosion resistance. The primer has good adhesion and corrosion resistance. At the same time, ultra-fine zinc-aluminum slurry or ultra-fine aluminum slurry is used in the primer, which greatly improves the density, toughness, surface finish and adhesion of the coating.
