What Are 5383 and 5086 Aluminum Sheet Properties
In the field of shipbuilding, the choice of materials is crucial, which is directly related to the performance, safety and service life of the ship. 5383 and 5086 aluminum alloys have become ideal materials for shipbuilding due to their excellent performance and are widely used in various key parts of ships.
5383 aluminum
5383 aluminum plate belongs to AL-Mg alloy aluminum plate, in which magnesium is the main alloying element. This alloy has many remarkable performance characteristics. It has high strength, especially excellent fatigue resistance, and can withstand various stresses faced by ships during long-term voyages. Its plasticity and corrosion resistance are also very outstanding. It can effectively resist the erosion of seawater in complex marine environments, greatly extending the service life of ships.
What are 5383 aluminum properties? 5383 aluminum alloy cannot be strengthened by heat treatment, but it can still maintain good plasticity during semi-cold hardening, which facilitates its processing and forming.
In terms of welding performance, the alloy has good gas welding, arc welding, resistance welding, spot welding, and seam welding performance, but it tends to have crystal cracks during argon arc welding. However, by selecting a suitable solder, the air tightness of the weld can be improved and the crack tendency can be eliminated.
In addition, the strength and plasticity of its weld are high, and the weld strength can reach 90% - 95% of the strength of the base metal. However, the cutting performance of 5383 aluminum alloy in the annealed state is poor, but it improves in the cold hardening state.
5086 aluminum alloy
5086 aluminum sheet also has the characteristics of hot brittleness, corrosion resistance, and oxidation coloring. It has good castability and pressure resistance, suitable for manufacturing large die castings, and also has good performance in mechanical properties and cutting properties, but its corrosion resistance is slightly inferior to 5383 aluminum alloy.
In terms of chemical composition, the magnesium content of 5086 aluminum sheet is between 3.5 and 4.5, the zinc content is ≤0.25, the manganese content is 0.20-0.7, the titanium content is ≤0.15, the chromium content is 0.05-0.25, and the iron content is 0.000-0.500. Its mechanical properties are tensile strength σb (MPa) ≥ 240, conditional yield strength σ0.2 (MPa) ≥ 95, elongation δ10 (%) ≥ 10, and elongation δ5 (%) ≥ 12. These performance characteristics make 5086 aluminum alloy have a wide range of applications in the field of shipbuilding.
