The Main Aluminium Plate for Ship Building

Aluminum alloy has low density and aluminum structure can reduce the center of gravity of ships, especially those with aluminum superstructure and steel main hull, increase stability, and reduce the required propulsion power under constant speed conditions.

Aluminum alloy is non-magnetic, weldable and easy to form. Compared with steel and titanium alloy, it has no low temperature brittleness and is non-flammable. Aluminum-magnesium alloys and aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloys have good resistance to marine atmospheric corrosion, and their ship life is significantly longer than that of steel ships. At present, From 1966 to 1971, the United States built 14 "Asheville"-class high-speed gunboats. The main deck and bottom of the ship were 12.7mm thick 5086 h32 aluminum sheet. 5086 h111 and h112 were used for the ships too.

In 1981, the American Boeing Ship Systems built 6 aluminum-hull hydrofoil guided missile patrol boats, using 5456 aluminum alloy welding structure. The United Kingdom built the fully welded hovercraft API88 in the 1980s, which was the latest development of aluminum hull hovercraft at that time, adopting 5083 aluminum plate.

In 2000, the British Nigel Ji Association Co., Ltd. proposed the X-Craft transport ship design plan for the U.S. Navy for fast transportation. The ship adopts catamaran design and aluminum alloy materials, with a displacement of 1000t and adopts water jet propulsion. The maximum speed is about 93km/h.

Russia currently has about 1,000 various types of aluminum alloy high-speed boats. The most used speedboat shell materials are Al-Cu-Mg forged aluminum alloys AK2, AK4 and AK8, which correspond to China's 2A90, 2A80 and 2A14, respectively.
