Marine Grade Aluminum 6061 for Ship Building
The main alloy elements of marine grade aluminum 6061 are magnesium and silicon, which have medium strength, good corrosion resistance, good weldability, high toughness, no deformation after processing and good anodizing effect. It is widely used for the building of different ships such as catamaran, sailing boats, container and ship deck.
A catamaran is a conjoined ship composed of two slender hulls connected together horizontally. The hulls are connected by a deck bridge and each has an independent propulsion device. As the two small boats are connected horizontally, they can withstand large winds and waves at sea and are not easy to capsize. The light weight, strong mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of aluminum alloy make it widely used in the construction of catamarans.
The sailing boat can move forward only by wind, without having to install a huge fuel tank and internal combustion engine, so that it can free up a lot of space to store the required drinking water and food. At present, most of the sailing boat materials are made of 6061 alloy, which can be used as masts and other marine accessories.
The container format is uniform and can be stacked layer by layer, so it can be placed in large amount on the ocean-going ships to provide cheap transportation service. The aluminum profiles for containers mainly include 6061, 6082, 6351, 6005, 6063 and 6060 alloys, of which 6061 and 6082 sheets are the most used, accounting for more than 90% of the usage.
The deck is an important component of the hull. It is a plane structure above the inner bottom plate in the ship structure. It is used to cover the inner space of the ship and divide it horizontally into layers. 6061 aluminum tread plate is an indispensable material for making ship decks, which has has excellent corrosion resistance, weather resistance, anti-slip properties, and is easy to process.
