Marine Grade Aluminium 5083 VS Industrial 5083
5083 aluminum plate has attracted much attention due to its excellent comprehensive performance. However, many people may not know that 5083 aluminum plate has marine grade and general use according to different usage scenarios. What are their differences?
Process
Since ships operate in complex and harsh marine environments for a long time, marine aluminum plates must meet extremely high quality standards. In terms of alloy composition, repeated experiments and precise calculations are required to ensure that the content of key alloy elements such as magnesium (Mg) is accurate and correct to achieve the best performance balance.
When Haomei Aluminum produces marine aluminum plates, the alloy composition optimization and homogenization heat treatment are used to make the elongation of marine grade aluminium 5083 reach 18%, and the impact toughness is 25% higher than the industry standard.
During the processing, the original "online quenching + pre-stretching" process can reduce the residual stress of the aluminum plate by 60%, greatly improve the fatigue resistance, and meet the long-term service requirements in high-pressure environments such as LNG ships.
At the same time, every process in the production process must be subject to strict quality inspection, from smelting, casting to rolling, heat treatment, and any minor defects will not be missed to ensure the quality stability and reliability of the plate.
The production process of ordinary 5083 aluminum sheets is relatively less stringent. Although certain standards are followed in the control of alloy composition, the precision control of specific element content is not as high as that of marine aluminum plates.
In the processing stage, some general-purpose aluminum plates may not require complex heat treatment processes like marine aluminum plates, or the requirements for eliminating residual stress are not so strict.
Performance
5083 Marine Aluminum Plate
High strength: When a ship is sailing, the hull will be subjected to various external forces such as the impact of waves and water pressure. This requires that the marine aluminum plate has a high enough strength to withstand these external forces and ensure the safety of the ship structure. 5083 marine aluminum plate uses special technology to meet the strength requirements of different parts of the ship.
For example, the aluminum plate used for the outer plate of the bottom of the ship needs to withstand a large water pressure, and its strength index must meet the corresponding high standards.
Excellent corrosion resistance: In the marine environment, seawater contains a lot of salt and is highly corrosive. In addition, there are various microorganisms attached and corroded. After special treatment, 5083 marine aluminum plate has excellent seawater corrosion resistance, which can resist the erosion of seawater and microorganisms for a long time, effectively extending the service life of the ship.
Good welding performance: In the process of shipbuilding, a large number of parts need to be assembled together by welding. 5083 marine aluminum plate has excellent welding crack resistance, which can achieve automatic argon arc welding seamless connection, and the weld strength reaches more than 95% of the parent material, which can ensure the strength and sealing of the welding part and ensure the integrity of the overall structure of the ship.
General 5083 aluminum plate
Medium strength: Ordinary 5083 aluminum plate has medium strength and can meet the structural strength requirements of general industrial and civil fields, such as building door and window frames, general mechanical parts, etc. In these scenarios, excessive strength is not required.
Good corrosion resistance: Compared with marine aluminum plates, ordinary 5083 aluminum plates have lower corrosion resistance requirements. They can have better corrosion resistance in general atmospheric environments, but their corrosion resistance is relatively weak in harsh environments such as high humidity and high salinity.
General welding performance: Ordinary 5083 aluminum plates can perform conventional welding operations to meet the assembly requirements of general products, but the complexity of welding processes and weld strength requirements are lower than marine aluminum plates.
Aluminum sheet price
Due to the complex production process, extremely high requirements for equipment, technology and quality control, coupled with its high performance and high standards, the price of 5083 marine aluminum plate is relatively high, several hundred dollars more expensive than the ordinary 5083 aluminum sheet.
Its price not only includes the cost of raw materials, but also covers the high R&D costs, advanced equipment investment costs, and strict quality inspection costs.
