Marine Grade 5086 Aluminum Properties
In the In the 1960s, the U.S. Navy successively developed 5086-H32 and 5456-H321 aluminum alloy sheets, 5086-H111 and 5456-H111 aluminum alloy extruded profiles. Due to the adoption of H116 and H117 states, the intergranular precipitation omentum is eliminated, and their problems of exfoliation corrosion and intergranular corrosion are solved, which is a significant progress in the development of marine aluminum alloys in the 1960s.
The shipbuilding industry has special requirements for the strength, corrosion resistance and weldability of aluminum alloys. 5086 aluminum plate is an aluminum-magnesium alloy, a typical anti-rust aluminum plate, featuring excellent corrosion resistance, workability, strength, etc. It is widely used in the superstructure of various types of ships and the hull of small ships.
5086 belongs to Al-Mg alloy and the magnesium content generally does not exceed 7%. With the increase of magnesium content, the strength of the alloy will increase, and the plasticity will decrease. It is usually used in the annealed state, cold work hardening or semi-cold work hardening state.
The strength of 5086 aluminum sheet is higher than that of 5052 aluminum alloy, but the strength is slightly lower than that of 5083 aluminum alloy. It can be resistant to strong seawater, industrial atmosphere, petrochemical and other media. At the same time, it has good weldability and good formability.
