Boat Aluminum Sheet and Extrusions

The most important goal in manufacturing aluminum alloy high-speed ships is to achieve the designed speed. Under the same hull line and the same main engine power, the lighter the empty ship weight, the faster the ship speed and the lower the fuel consumption. The density of aluminum alloy is only 1/3 of that of steel, which can greatly reduce the empty ship weight. This feature makes aluminum alloy very suitable as a material for building high-speed ships.

At present, the use of aluminum alloys in the shipbuilding field is still mainly based on 5083 boat aluminum sheet and its improved alloys, making full use of its comprehensive advantages in corrosion resistance, welding performance, easy forming performance and mechanical properties.

Features of 5083 marine grade aluminum sheet

Formability: Marine grade 5083 aluminum sheet has good formability in annealing (O) state, followed by H32 and H34 states, and poor in H36/H38 state.

Weldability: Marine grade 5083 aluminum sheet can adapt well to various welding methods, such as gas, arc, resistance, spot welding and seam welding, and the weld strength can reach 90% to 95% of the parent material strength.

Other characteristics: Excellent corrosion resistance, high surface processing, small elastic modulus, no low temperature brittleness, and no magnetism.

Aluminium boat extrusions are special aluminum profile with good seawater corrosion resistance and light weight and high strength. Marine aluminum alloys are widely used in the manufacture and maintenance of structural components such as hulls, cabins, and decks, which can greatly reduce the weight of ships and improve the navigation speed and fuel economy of ships.

Marine aluminum profiles

Industrial aluminum profiles with so many advantages are currently widely used in many types of ships. The amount of industrial aluminum profiles used in an aircraft carrier is about 1,000 tons, which is very considerable. There are also speedboats that we usually see more often. This kind of ship has a relatively high speed requirement, and the lighter the weight of the hull is, the better. There are also workboats, LNG cargo ships, etc., which adopts many types of aluminum boat extrusions.

6082 aluminum profile is a heat-treatable aluminum alloy belonging to the 6 series (Al-Mg-Si) alloy. It is known for its moderate strength, good welding performance and good corrosion resistance. It is widely used in transportation and structural engineering industries, such as bridges, cranes, roof trusses, transportation, etc.

The chemical composition of 6082 aluminum includes silicon (Si), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), magnesium (Mg), chromium (Cr), zinc (Zn), titanium (Ti) and aluminum (Al). During the casting process, the temperature, composition and impurity content need to be strictly controlled to ensure the quality of the product.
