Aluminum 6061 and 6082 Properties
At present, the aluminum alloys used for ship hulls mainly include 5083, 5086, 6061, 6082,etc. 5000 aluminum alloys are mainly used to make aluminum plates, and is also used to make profiles. For example, 5050 aluminum alloy can be made into pipes and special shapes. 6 series aluminum alloys are mainly used as aluminum profiles because of their good deformability, mainly hot extrusion profiles. The marine grade aluminum 6061 can also be used as aluminum plate.
Aluminum alloy 6082 and 6061 are like twins in the the family of aluminum, magnesium and silicon alloy that can be heat treated and strengthened. Their extrusion and forging properties are excellent, and their anodizing and corrosion resistance are also first-class. After extrusion quenching and artificial aging, the HBS value of 6082 can reach more than 80, while that of 6061 can exceed 95.
6082 aluminum plate is a heat-treatable strengthened alloy with medium strength. The aluminum plate combines excellent weldability, brazing properties, corrosion resistance, formability and machinability, and can still maintain good operability after annealing. This alloy has similar but not identical mechanical properties to the 6061 aluminum alloy. The 6082 t6 properties are very excellent with high mechanical properties.
6082 aluminum has good tensile strength and yield strength, and high hardness, which can meet the requirements for strength and hardness in different occasions. 6082 aluminum profile has excellent processing performance and is easy to carry out processing processes such as smelting, casting, forging, and rolling, which further broadens its application scope.
6061 aluminum is an alloy used in the production of extrusions. It is a versatile aluminum alloy whose main alloying elements are magnesium, silicon and aluminum. It has good weldability, processability and high strength, and is widely used in aerospace, shipbuilding, pipelines, molds and other fields.
Aluminum 6061 is highly solderable. After welding, the properties near the weld are those of 6061-T4 and can be reheat treated to restore the entire piece to a tempered state close to 6061-T6.
