6063 Aluminum Sheet Properties
6063 aluminum plate is a typical Al-Mg-Si aluminum plate. Its strength is lower than that of 6061 aluminum plate, and its extrudability is good. The main alloying elements of 6063 large aluminum sheets are magnesium and silicon, and form Mg2Si phase. If it contains a certain amount of manganese and chromium, it can neutralize the bad effect of iron; sometimes a small amount of copper or zinc is added to improve the strength of the alloy without significantly reducing its corrosion resistance.
The hardness of 6063T6 aluminum plate is slightly lower than that of 6061T6 aluminum plate. Usually, the hardness of 6063T6 can reach around 85HB, but 6063 aluminum also has many advantages:
1. 6063 aluminum plate can be strengthened by heat treatment and has high impact toughness.
2. It has excellent thermoplasticity, and can be extruded into thin-walled with complex structure at high speed, various hollow profiles and forged into forgings with complex structure.
3. It has wide quenching temperature range and quenching sensitivity. After extrusion and forging, as long as the temperature is higher than the quenching temperature, it can be quenched by spraying water.
4. After processing, the surface is very smooth and easy to anodize and color.
The common tempers of 6063 aluminum plate are T5 and T6. The hardness of T5 is lower than that of T6. The 6063 aluminum plate T5 is an aluminum profile that is extruded from the extrusion machine and then cooled by air to quickly cool the aluminum profile to meet the hardness requirements (Wechsler 10-12 hardness).
6063 aluminum plate T6 is the aluminum profile that is extruded from the extrusion machine and then cooled with water to instantly cool the aluminum profile, so that the aluminum profile can meet higher hardness requirements (more than 15 Webster hardness).
6063 aluminum is highly weldable and welds with inert gas tungsten. Typically, after welding, the properties near the weld are those of 6063-O, with a loss of strength of up to 30%.
