5356 VS 5183 Aluminum Welding Wire
The selection of aluminum welding wire is mainly based on the type of base metal, and the requirements for crack resistance, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the joint. For example, in general, welding aluminum and aluminum alloys use welding wires of the same or similar grades as the base metal, so that better corrosion resistance can be obtained.
However, when welding a heat-treated strengthened aluminum alloy with a large tendency to thermal cracks, the selection of welding wire mainly starts with solving the crack resistance. 5356 and 5183 aluminum welding wire are all 5xxx series welding wire.
5183 welding wire is usually used as filler metal in ALMg4.5Mn alloy, which contains higher manganese content than 5356. It contains 4.3-5.0% magnesium, 0.5-1.0% manganese and appropriate chromium and titanium, which can be used for MIG or TIG welding. It is suitable for 5083, 5086, 5456, 5052, 5652 and 5056. The anodized color of ER5183 is white, the melting point temperature is 1075-1180oF, and the tensile strength of the weld is 294MP.
5356 aluminum welding wire is usually used as ALMg5, which is an aluminum alloy filler metal containing up to 5% magnesium. It can be used for MIG or TIG welding. It has good seawater corrosion resistance.
It can generally be used for welding of base metals 5050, 5052, 5083, 5356, 5454 and 5456. It is white in color after anodization and has a tensile strength of 290MP. 5356 aluminum welding wire has high strength, good forgeability and good corrosion resistance. This product also provides good color matching for anodized welding.
The aluminum welding wire itself is not good or bad. It depends on which kind of base metal the customer is welding. If the welding wire that matches the base metal is selected, a good welding effect can be achieved.
