5000 Series Aluminum For Marine Use

Due to the low density of aluminum and aluminum alloy, which is about 1/3 of steel,strong corrosion resistance to seawater and good processing and forming performance and weldability, etc., aluminum sheet and profile is often used for shipbuilding, usually 5000 series. 5000 series aluminum for marine use include 5052, 5083, 5086, 5383, 5754, 5059,etc.

Marine aluminum plates are divided into sea water aluminum plates, inland river marine aluminum plates and yacht aluminum sheet. Due to the different application areas of ships, the performance requirements for aluminum sheets are also different in the manufacturing process. Generally, the aluminum sheets used in inland river are mostly 5454, while 5083 aluminum sheets are more used in ocean.

The 5083 aluminum plate can be regarded as a representative product of the 5 series marine aluminum plate, and the tempers include O, H111, H112, H116, H321, etc. 5083 aluminum sheet has medium strength, good corrosion resistance and formability, high fatigue resistance, and is generally used as the main structure of the hull.

5083H116 or 5083H321 are marine aluminum plates, which are used in oceans, lakes, seas,mainly in the form of wide plates ad thick plates. Usually the width is 2m and the length is 6m. Haomei aluminum sheet 5083 gets the certification of DNV, LR, ABS and CCS.

5383 aluminum alloy is an improved alloy of 5083 aluminum alloy. Compared with aluminum sheet 5083, 5383 aluminum alloy has higher strength and better welding performance. The Mg content in the 5383 aluminum alloy is between 4.0 and 5.2%. When used in a corrosive environment, such as an offshore environment, corrosion failure is prone to occur. Therefore, it is necessary to stabilize the aluminum plate to improve its corrosion resistance.
