3003 VS 5052 Sheet for Shipbuilding
It is well known that 3003 aluminium alloy and 5052 sheet are typical anti-rust aluminum with excellent corrosion resistance. But it is not difficult to find that they belong to different alloy series. With different main alloy element Mn and Mg, there is a big difference between 3003 aluminum and 5052 used in shipbuilding.
3003 and 5052 aluminum properties
In fact, the strength of 5052 aluminum is higher than that of 3003 aluminum, especially the highest fatigue strength. In addition, the workability of 5052 aluminum is also better than that of 3003 aluminum, and its seawater resistance is also excellent. Therefore, 5052 aluminum is a common marine grade aluminum sheet.
3003 aluminum sheet has better ductility. 3003 thin aluminum sheet is widely used in the processing of marine parts and components that require good formability, high corrosion resistance and good weldability. It is worth mentioning that 3003 aluminum foil is much favored in the food packaging and electronics industries.
Performance difference in Shipbuilding
Take 3003 and 5052 h24 aluminum for example. The tensile strength of 5052 aluminum is 230-280Rm/MPa, while the tensile strength of 3003 aluminum is 145-195Rm/MP, so the tensile strength of 5052 aluminum is much higher than 3003 aluminum.
The extension strength of 5052 aluminum is 150Rm/MPa, while the extension strength of 3003 aluminum is 115Rm/MPa. Therefore, the overall performance of 5052 aluminum plate is significantly better than 3003 aluminum.
5052 sheet is mainly used for small ships and ship parts, such as cable trays, decks, portholes, gangways, etc. As for the 3003 aluminum plate, it is usually used for ship parts and anti-skid plates, such as the anti-slip plates in the anti-sinking engine room.
Aluminum 3003 price is slightly higher than that of pure aluminum, while 5052 aluminum sheet price is much higher than that of 3003 aluminum. According to different tempers and thickness, 5052 aluminum sheet price is about 283-423 US dollars higher than 3003 aluminum per ton.
